James M. Russell, Retired oil executive

November 13, 1990

A memorial service for James Merrill Russell, a retired oil company executive and photographic salesman, will be held at 2 p.m. today at Trinity Episcopal Church, 120 Allegheny Ave., Towson.

Mr. Russell, who was 87 and lived on Hastings Road in Wiltondale, died Saturday at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center of complications from injuries suffered in an automobile accident near his home Oct. 29.

He retired nearly 30 years ago from what was then the Esso Corp. -- now Exxon -- after working for many years at Esso's old Standard Oil Co. refinery in Canton.

After his retirement, he worked for about seven years as a salesman for MAPS Inc., an aerial photography company.

Born in Baltimore, he was a graduate of Baltimore Polytechnic Institute and the Johns Hopkins University, which he attended at night.

His wife, the former Catherine May Penn, died in 1987.

He is survived by a daughter, Sally R. Horrocks of Towson; and a granddaughter.
