Daniel Wu rushed for 167 yards on 22 carries (two touchdowns), as host Severn (8-2) clinched the Maryland Scholastic Association C Conference tri-championship (along with St. Mary's and St. Paul's) with a 45-6 romp over Southwestern Saturday.
Admiral fullback Randy Morse broke loose for a 41-yard touchdown run during the third quarter, while Kyong So and Jason Wade scored on runs covering one and 17 yards respectively. Jake Mack returned one of his two interceptions 61 yards for six points in a 22-point second quarter.
"They (Southwestern) just couldn't stop us on offense," said Severn head coach Doug Williams. "Southwestern moved the ball pretty well on offense, but we just made the key plays on defense."
The Admiral defense held Southwestern's highly touted quarterback Diarra Davis (22 touchdown passes, over 1,800 yards passing) to just one touchdown pass, a 20-yard strike to Damon Kimbrough.
Williams added, "This was just a great win for us. One of the best we've had this year. The kids have big heart, and they're very easy to coach.
They just did an outstanding job."
So converted five out of five extra-point kicks on the afternoon, while Andy Plummer added a first-quarter safety.
Wu finished the season with 1,396 yards (24 yards shy of the school record, set by Mike Fidgeon in 1983) and 13 touchdowns.
