George A. Helm Md. Steel executive

Services for George A. Helm, retired vice president of the Maryland Steel Products Co., will be held at 1 p.m. tomorrow at the Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel in Westminster.

Mr. Helm, who moved to Westminster about three years ago, died Saturday at the Westminster Nursing and Convalescent Center after a long illness. He was 79.

He retired 10 years ago from his position with the steel fabricating company. He began his employment there as a clerk 50 years earlier.

The Baltimore native became a member of the Parkside United Methodist Church while living in Northeast Baltimore. Before moving to Westminster, he also maintained a home in Pinehurst-on-the-Bay for 40 years. He was a founder of the Pinehurst-on-the-Bay-Bodkin Community Association.

He was a Mason and a member of the Baltimore Forest of the Tall Cedars of Lebanon.

He is survived by his wife, the former Georgianna Foster; a son, George Ronald Helm of Houston; a daughter, Susan Helm Thomas of Westminster; a sister, Margaret Hanzlik of Baltimore; and five grandchildren.
