Anna E. Courtney Federal Reserve worker

Anna Emily Courtney, a former employee of the Federal Reserve System in Washington, died Monday after a short illness at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in Lakeland, Fla. She was 79.

Born in Baltimore, Mrs. Courtney moved to Lakeland from Sarasota, Fla., nine years ago after retiring as supervisor of administrative personnel and executive secretary to the board of governors of the Federal Reserve in Washington. While in Maryland she and her husband, Francis D. "Skip" Courtney, lived in Takoma Park and Mayo.

Active in boating, Mrs. Courtney was a lifelong member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and a member of the West River Yacht Club in Annapolis. A Methodist, she was also a member of the Arlington, Va., chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.

In addition to her husband of more than 50 years, Mrs. Courtney is survived by a son, Frank Courtney of Severna Park; and four grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Thursday.
