Town To Mull Annexation

November 04, 1990

MOUNT AIRY - The Town Council will take up a controversial request for annexation of 100 Frederick County acres into the town at its regular monthly meeting tomorrow night.

The parcel, called the Western annexation, is made up of 81 acres owned by Frall Developers, and about 13 acres owned by Baltimore Gas & Electric, just north of Prospect Road.

Frall wants the land, which is currently zoned for agriculture, brought into the town zoned for high-density residential. The developer has plans for between 120 and 260 town house and apartment units on the parcel.

At a September public hearing on the request, many neighboring residents turned out to decry the request. Also the town's Planning Commission recommended that the council not approve the annexation, primarily because it was not identified for annexation in the town's 10-year master plan.

But the council is looking at the request because the land could be a much-needed source of water for a town hard-pressed to meet its water needs.

The meeting is set for 8 p.m. in Town Hall.
