P.G. Write-in ELECTION '90

November 02, 1990

Democratic leaders in Prince George's County have come up with a sensible plan to avoid the unappetizing choice in the Second Councilmanic District between a convicted incumbent and a Republican nominee disavowed by his own party. They have launched a write-in campaign for Takoma Park Mayor Stephen J. Del Giudice. He is far and away the best of the candidates seeking to represent the inner-beltway district that includes Mount Rainier, Hyattsville and University Park.

Left to choose between Councilman Anthony J. Cicoria, convicted this week of stealing campaign funds, and J. Lee Ball, the Republican nominee abandoned by his own party, we reluctantly sided with Mr. Ball. Now that Mayor Del Giudice is in the race, however, we strongly endorse his candidacy. Mr. Del Giudice teaches law at George Washington University, is a three-term mayor and is president of the Washington Metropolitan Council of Governments. District 2 voters finally have a candidate they can enthusiastically support.
