McGonnigal released

November 01, 1990

Virginia tight end Bruce McGonnigal has been released from a Charlottesville, Va., hospital and will be permitted to attend Saturday's showdown between the top-ranked Cavaliers and Georgia Tech, a school spokesman said.

McGonnigal, a Loyola High School graduate and 1985 Evening Sun Defensive Player of the Year, was injured two weeks ago, when he fell 6 1/2 feet down a walk-in leading to a basement while trying to retrieve a deaf dog during a severe thunderstorm. He suffered a bruised kidney and injuries to his spleen.

McGonnigal will miss the rest of the regular season, but his status is uncertain for a bowl game.
