Baseball Boston Red Sox -- Agreed to terms with P Greg Harris on two-year contract plus option year. Purchased contracts of minor-league pitchers Tom Fischer, Derek Livernois, Dan O'Neill, Dave Owen, Jeff Plympton and Scott Taylor.

Cincinnati Reds -- Chose not to exercise contract option on IF Ron Oester, who then filed for free agency.

Kansas City Royals -- Announced OF Willie Wilson will not be offered contract for next season.

Los Angeles Dodgers -- Announced P Fernando Valenzuela has filed for free agency. Purchased contracts of 1B Eric Karros and OF Henry Rodriguez from Class AA San Antonio. Reinstated P Orel Hershiser, P Tim Belcher and 3B Jeff Hamilton from 60-day emergency disabled list.

Philadelphia Phillies -- Signed C Darren Daulton to three-year, $6.75 million contract. Named Johnny Podres to replace Darold Knowles as pitching coach.

Pittsburgh Pirates -- Declined to offer salary arbitration to P Ted Power, who then filed for free agency. Announced 1B Sid Bream has filed for free agency.

San Diego Padres -- Fired Jack Maloof as batting coach. Hired Oakland Athletics hitting coach Merv Rettenmund to replace him.

Texas Rangers -- Named Tommy Thompson manager of Class AAA Oklahoma City.

Toronto Blue Jays -- Announced OF/DH George Bell has filed for free agency.

Basketball Atlanta Hawks -- Placed F Duane Ferrell (Calvert Hall) and F Darren Henrie on waivers.

Golden State Warriors -- Placed F Jim Peterson and G Bart Kofoed on injured list. Waived G Stan Kimbrough.

Sacramento Kings -- Claimed G Ricky Calloway on waivers from San Antonio Spurs. Released C Marty Conlon and G Joe Fredrick.

College Boston College -- Ruled RB Tim Frager ineligible for remainder of season for violating NCAA regulations regarding a prescription medication, which, unknown to Frager, was on NCAA banned-substance list. The school said substance was not cocaine, marijuana or steroids.

Houston -- Announced F Craig Upchurch will miss basketball season because of back injury he suffered in a summer pickup game.

North Carolina -- Named Bruce Hemphill director of football recruiting.

Football Cleveland Browns -- Signed LB Ken Rose. Waived WR Eugene Rowell.

Green Bay Packers -- Waived TE Craig Hudson. Signed DE Lester Archambeau for practice squad.

Indianapolis Colts -- Signed QB Rusty Hilger. Signed WR Reggie Thornton for practice squad.

New York Jets -- Signed OL Mark Hofland for practice squad.

Phoenix Cardinals -- Waived RB John Burch.

San Francisco 49ers -- Placed WR Mike Sherrard on injured reserve. Activated WR Ron Lewis from injured reserve.

Hockey Baltimore Skipjacks (AHL) -- Recalled G Ollie Kolzig from Hampton Roads (ECHL).

Chicago Blackhawks -- Signed RW Steve Larmer to four-year, $3.1 million contract.
