In the huddle before Overlea and Hereford met in a Class 2A, Region II soccer match yesterday, a Hereford player said, "All or nothing."

Then, the Overlea Falcons sent the Bulls home with a 1-0 loss and knocked them out of contention for the state 2A title.

Overlea scored the winning goal the same way Hereford got a tying goal earlier in the season to avoid a loss to the Falcons -- a corner kick.

The winning goal came from sophomore Greg Stevenson at 13 minutes, 50 seconds of the first half. Stevenson sent a looping corner kick into the upper corner of the goal. Hereford goalie Jeremy Piluk tried to knock it out, but could not get there in time.

"On our first corner kick, we try to have pressure on the keeper and have as many bodies on the end line," said Overlea coach Doug Eisenhauer.

Overlea dominated most of the first half, but Piluk came out of the goal often to pluck some high crosses and long shots out of the air.

Tomorrow at Dundalk Community College (3 p.m.), Overlea will play Towson, a 3-2 winner in overtime against Loch Raven yesterday.

Overlea striker Steve Newberger said, "It seems like we've put it more together since we played Loch Raven [earlier in the season]."

In other regional semifinals, Parkville (8-4-1) advanced by winning a shootout, 7-6, in a Class 3A, Region III game with Catonsville (6-2-3) that ended in a 1-1 tie after two overtime periods. Brian Ziehl's penalty kick gave Parkville the lead in the shootout, and Marshall Forrestor stopped Catonsville's last shot to secure the victory.

Clark Ledbetter scored the only goal in host and sixth-ranked Dulaney's (10-1-1) 1-0 triumph over Westminster (5-8) in a Class 4A, Region I game.

Craig Miller's goal in the first overtime period lifted No. 9 Franklin (10-1) over visiting Elkton (8-4-1), 1-0, in a Class 3A, Region III contest.

Ian Wildey's goal with 7:35 left in the second overtime led visiting Towson (8-4-1) over Loch Raven (8-3).

Danette Lemerise scored two goals and Stefanie Magro had one, as visiting Oakland Mills defeated Centennial, 3-2, in a Class 3A/4A, Region IV game.
