Reunion to honor Karpouzie's work

October 30, 1990

Friends of Lou Karpouzie, a tireless promoter of sports, recreation and worthy causes in Highlandtown, have planned a "Lou Karpouzie Football Reunion" for Nov. 9 at the Steelworkers Hall on Dundalk Avenue.

The reunion is for players who competed on Karpouzie's football teams from 1944 to 1975. Karpouzie formed a sandlot team for boys in 1944, and during the next 31 years he coached other sandlot teams, a semipro team, junior high school teams, and junior varsity teams at Calvert Hall and Patterson high schools.

Karpouzie, 64, is special-events manager for the city Department of Public Works. In his spare time he organizes an annual Thanksgiving dinner at Patterson High for as many as 700 needy people, as well as raffles and sporting events for the benefit of needy people, groups and institutions.

Former players interested in attending the reunion should call 679-2179 or 866-2974.
