State's teacher of 1990 chosen from Landover

October 30, 1990

Rosemarie F. McConnaughey, a Prince George's County elementary school teacher, has been named the 1990 Maryland Teacher of the Year from a field of six candidates.

The announcement was made at an awards dinner in Baltimore last night by Joseph L. Shilling, state school superintendent. McConnaughey's selection will put her in competition with teachers from around the country for National Teacher of the Year.

A 16-year veteran of the Prince George's school system, McConnaughey teaches fifth and sixth grades at Columbia Park Elementary School in Landover, which was honored nationally in 1988 by the U.S. Department of Education.

McConnaughey was nominated as the county's outstanding educator in 1986 and has been frequently cited by the county and school as a model teacher.
