The Anne Arundel Community College volleyball team enjoyed a productive weekend on the road, winning three of four matches in two locations.
The Pioneers defeated host Frederick and Potomac State Friday, then split matches with host Potomac State and Essex Saturday.
On Friday, Anne Arundel defeated Frederick, 11-15, 15-13, 15-12, 15-10, and Potomac State, 15-6, 15-8. The Pioneers victimized Potomac again the following day, 15-5, 12-15, 16-14, but fell to an Essex team in search of revenge, 11-15, 12-15.
Anne Arundel had swept the Knights earlier in the season.
"They were so psyched to play us after we beat them at home," noted Pioneers assistant Betty Hession. "They were ready for us."
Severna Park graduate Jen Erlandson totaled 45 kills over two days.
Susan Nelson (Chesapeake) had 31 kills, and Danielle Stephenson (Andover) had 10 digs from the back row.
"That was the best I've seen her play this year," Hession said of Stephenson.
Anne Arundel is 16-17 overall, 7-3 in the league, heading into tomorrow's match at Washington College. The Pioneers then compete in the Hagerstown Tournament Nov. 3, in preparation for the Region XX Tournament Nov. 10-11 at Montgomery-Rockville.
Hession believes Anne Arundel has a "good chance at making the finals" of the Hagerstown Tournament.
