Walter Hendin pharmacist, businessman

Walter Hendin, a retired pharmacist and businessman, died of cancer Saturday at Hollywood Memorial Hospital in Florida. He was 70.

Mr. Hendin lived on Bancroft Road in Baltimore County before retiring to Hollywood in the early 1970s.

Services for Mr. Hendin were being held today at Sol Levinson & Bros. funeral establishment, 6010 Reisterstown Road.

Mr. Hendin worked as a pharmacist for the old Read's drugstore chain before becoming co-owner with his brother of Hendin's Hollywood Fashions, a women's clothing store.

He was a charter member of the Chestnut Ridge Country Club and a founder of the Shaarei Zion congregation on Park Heights Avenue.

He was former president of the B'nai B'rith Ben Gurion Lodge and vice president of the Hallandale Jewish Center in Florida.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, the former Rae Eisenberg; two sons, Stuart Hendin and Benjamin Hendin, both of Baltimore; three sisters, Ann Margulies of Surfside, Fla., Rebecca Redler, also of Surfside, and Jeannette Schapiro of Baltimore; a brother, Samuel Hendin, also of Surfside; and two grandchildren.

The family suggested that memorial donations be made to the Cancer Research Fund at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
