October 28, 1990|By Michael Dresser

These are some good "weekday" wines that cost under $5 per standard bottle. Some are more widely available in jugs or liter bottles but still work out to less than $5 per 750 milliliters. They are listed in order of my preference.

1988 Domaine de Rieux, Vin de Pays des Cotes de Gascogne, France ($4.99).

Cler Blanc Vin de Table Blanc, Sauvion & Fils, Francenon-vintage ($5.99/liter)

1988 Lupe-Cholet Cotes du Rhone, France ($4.49).

1988 La Vieille Ferme Cotes du Ventoux, France ($4.79).

1987 Le Sable Pinot Noir, Yugoslavia ($3.99).

1988 Senorio de Robles, Spain ($3.99).

1989 Frescobaldi Chianti, Italy ($4.75).

1988 Duna Cabernet Sauvignon, Hungary ($2.99).

1988 Walnut Crest Merlot, Chile (about $6.99/liter).

1989 La Francesca Valpollicella, Italy ($3.59).
