Mobilio to miss Comets game

October 26, 1990|By Bill FREE

Baltimore Blast striker Domenic Mobilio, the team's leading scorer last season, is suffering with strep throat and will not play tonight against the Kansas City Comets in Kansas City, Mo.

Blast trainer Marty McGinty said Mobilio started feeling ill Tuesday night but that there was hope until yesterday afternoon he might be able to play.

"Dom's taking penicillin and drinking a lot of fluids and should be feeling a lot better by Saturday [tomorrow]," said McGinty. "One of the reasons we decided not to have him travel with the team is the fact that it's very contagious."

Blast coach Kenny Cooper said he wanted to make sure Mobilio was strong enough to play in tomorrow night's home opener, against the St. Louis Storm.

"We're playing two games in two days, and there was no way Dom could play in both of them," said Cooper, "so we decided to take no chances and to give him time to get ready for Saturday night."

Cooper said Rusty Troy would replace Mobilio.
