Centennial takes 1-0 soccer victory

October 25, 1990|By Rick Belz

Playing a man down for the final 15 minutes, No. 3 Centennial held off No. 7 Atholton for a 1-0 prep soccer victory yesterday.

Rogers Lewis scored the goal in the 15th minute off an assist from Robert Blanco in the Howard County League game at Centennial.

Blanco drew three defenders to the right of the goal, and then hit Lewis with a crossing pass that Lewis drilled into the net past Kori Hunter's left side.

The Eagles (9-1-1, 4-1-1), who clinched a Class 3A, Region I playoff spot with the win, played a man down after the ejection of Josh Baer in the 65th minute for a hand-ball violation.

Baer batted at a Centennial corner kick with his hand, knocking the ball into the goal. He drew a yellow card, his second of the game.

All three of Atholton's losses this year have been by 1-0 scores.
