October 24, 1990

Two men, one armed with a toy gun, robbed the Mr. Donut shop in Laurel on Friday, county police reported.

The police said the robbers entered the store in the 3500 block of Fort Meade Road at about 10:45 a.m. and bought two doughnuts and orange juice.

When the clerk opened the cash register, one of the robbers told her to leave it open. Then the man grabbed about $100 from the register draw before both men left the shop.

The police described the first robber as black, about 17 years old, 6 feet tall, wearing a brown and black sweater.

The second robber was described as black, about 17, wearing dark clothing and armed with a toy plastic gun.

A Severn woman was robbed Saturday in Jessup by a man she said was her date, county police said.

The police said the woman told officers she was on a date with a man at about 8 p.m. when he began driving recklessly and became angry with her.

The man drove to a liquor store on Route 175 where he bought liquor and continued to drive into Lake Village.

The man stopped on Carriage Circle and the woman got out of the car, went to a pay phone and dialed 911.

The police said the man grabbed the phone receiver out of her hand and told the operator everything was OK. Then hit the woman with the receiver and took her purse that contained $250.

After the man drove away, the woman called police.

An Annapolis man was robbed and assaulted Monday in Pioneer City, county police reported.

The police said the victim was talking on a pay phone on Pioneer Drive about 1:22 a.m. when a man asked him for a ride to Fort Meade. When the victim said he was not going that way, two other men approached him and began beating him with a hard object.

One of the men got into the victim's 1989 Nissan Stanza and drove away, the police said.

When the victim began running, three other men chased him, and one fired several gun shots.

The victim ran to a home in the 1100 block of Reece Road and the resident there called the police.

The man's car later was found in Pioneer City with all the windows smashed, the police said.

The police described the assailants as black men in their 20s.
