King's 65 leads Champions tourney

MIDLOTHIAN, Va. -- Keith King of Lake Wright Golf Club in Norfolk, Va., tied the course record with a 7-under-par 65, and took a two-stroke lead halfway through the 10th annual Tournament of Champions of the Middle Atlantic Professional Golfers' Association at Brandermill Country Club yesterday.

King, a five-time winner on the Southern Chapter pro-am circuit, was followed by Dennis Winters of Prospect Bay and Bud Lintelman of Hidden Creek at 67. They were among eight who broke par in the 56-player field.

Three of the section's top players are not entered, multiple winners Bob Boyd of Woodmont CC and Chris Peddicord of Sparrows Point CC, plus defending champion Webb Heintzelman from the PGA Tour.
