October 19, 1990|By The following accounts were compiled by reporter Richard Irwin from police records in the Baltimore area yesterday and today.

Baltimnore City

STABBING: Central District -- Shirley A. Jones, of the 4100 block of Mountwood Road, told police that during an incident at a house in the 1200 block of Etting St. about 11 p.m. yesterday she was stabbed with a knife and struck with a hammer. Police said the woman was taken to a hospital, where she was treated for multiple injuries and admitted. Police have issued a warrant charging Melvin Leon Jones, 41, of assault with intent to murder his former wife, common assault and using a deadly weapon in the commission of a felony.

THEFT: Central District -- Police reported that someone broke into a car owned by Patricia Hohman, of the 1400 block of Covington St., while the vehicle was parked in the 900 block of N. Howard St. and removed a radar detector. Police said the property was valued at nearly $300 and that entry was gained by breaking a window.

ROBBERY: Northeastern District -- Derek Meads, 23, of the 3400 block of Cliftmont Ave., reported that he was near his home late Wednesday night when he was accosted by two men, one armed with a handgun, who forced him to give up his keys. Police said the gunman and his accomplice then drove off in Meads' 1990 Honda.

BURGLARY: Northeastern District -- A resident of the 4900 block of Gunther Ave. reported that someone broke into his home Wednesday evening and removed a telephone answering machine valued at $70. Police said entry was gained by using a screw driver to force open a door.

THEFT: Northeastern District -- Mary Campbell, of the 1200 block of Kitmore Road, reported to police that someone entered her home yesterday and removed her 13-inch TV from her bedroom.

BURGLARY: Northeastern District -- Employees of Growth Horizon Inc. in the 2800 block of the Alameda reported that someone broke into the building through a window and removed property valued at $300.

ASSAULT: Northeastern District -- A 22-year-old woman reported that she was in her car and stopped at a red light in the 5100 block of Hillen Road when a man pulled alongside her and pointed a handgun at her. Police said the gunman drove off and that the woman was not injured.

BURGLARY: Northeastern District -- A resident of the 5300 block of Goodnow Road reported that someone broke into her apartment yesterday through a window and removed a VCR and several pieces of jewelry. Police said the value of the property was not immediately known.

ROBBERY: Northeastern District -- Police reported that a 17-year-old girl, who lives in the 4400 block of Franconia Drive, was in the 5300 block of Moravia Road yesterday when she was accosted by two men, one armed with a handgun, who forced her to give up her purse. Police said the gunman and his accomplice escaped with cash and property valued at $50.

ARREST: Northeastern District -- Police responding to the Ames department store in the 2400 block of Belair Road arrested a 36-year-old man who attempted to leave the store without paying for more than $30 worth of aspirin. Police said the man was stopped from leaving the store by a security officer, who detained him pending the arrival of city police officers. Police said the man was being held at the Eastern District pending charges and a bail hearing before a District Court commissioner.

BURGLARY: Northeastern District -- Officials of Armistead Elementary School in the 5000 block of E. Eager St. reported that someone broke into the building and removed tools valued at several hundred dollars.

THEFT: Northeastern District -- Brett Rosenberg, of the 6400 block of Cedonia Ave., reported that someone entered his property yesterday and removed a power lawn mower. Police said the property was valued at more than $150.

BURGLARY: Northeastern District -- Police reported that someone broke into a dwelling in the 5700 block of Hazelwood Circle and removed three watches and a clock radio. Police said the property was valued at more than $400 and that entry was gained through a bedroom window.

ROBBERY: Northeastern District -- Alfred Davis, 21, of the 6000 block of Nahat Road, reported to police that he was standing at a basketball court in the 1900 block of Maulsby Court in the Hollander Ridge public housing complex yesterday when he was accosted by a man known to him as "Pop," who pointed a gun at him and demanded his money. Police said Davis gave the man nearly $300 in cash.

ROBBERY: Northeastern District -- Tonya Russ, 21, of the 5300 block of Goodnow Road, told police she gave a man she knows her TV and VCR because he convinced her that he needed the property to get money as a result of being threatened by several men. Police said the fact that Russ was in fear of her life if she didn't give up the property made the incident a robbery.
