Services for Walter Bailey Jr., a retired claims examiner for the Social Security Administration, will be held at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses at 1925 N. Dukeland St.
Mr. Bailey, who was 72 and lived on Gwynn Oak Avenue, died Sunday of cancer at the Baltimore County General Hospital.
He retired in 1972, after working at the Social Security Administration headquarters since the end of World War II. Mr. Bailey served with the Navy in the Pacific during the war.
An elder in Jehovah's Witnesses, he had been active in the Edmondson Congregation, the Franklintown Congregation, the Walbrook Congregation and most recently the Mondawmin Congregation.
A native of Nassawadox on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, he came to Baltimore as a child and was a graduate of Frederick Douglass High School.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, the former Grace Williams; three daughters, Jessica Bailey of McLean, Va., and Delvan and Anita Bailey, both of Baltimore; two sons, Ronald and Bruce Bailey, both of Baltimore; a brother, Jesse Bailey of Philadelphia; three sisters, Carrie Emma Wilson, Paige B. Jones and Stella Johnson, all of Baltimore; and a granddaughter.
