Baltimore City

SHOOTING: Northwestern District -- Police reported that Wayne Whitlock, 12, was standing in the 2900 block of Garrison Blvd. near Duvall Avenue, not far from his home, about 9:30 p.m. yesterday when the occupant of a passing car fired a shot that hit the boy in the right thigh. Police said the youngster was taken to Sinai Hospital, where he was listed today in good condition. Police investigating the incident were attempting to determine if the shot that was fired was meant for someone standing nearby.

ASSAULT: Central District -- Gertrude Mitchell, of the 200 block of E. Preston St., told police she was walking in the 800 block of Park Ave. shortly before 7 p.m. yesterday when she was stopped by a man who asked her for a quarter. Police said before the woman could reply, the man struck her in the head with a bottle. Police said Mitchell was slightly injured but declined medical treatment.

ROBBERY: Central District -- Jacqueline Thompson, of the 5200 block of Eastbury Ave., reported that she was in the 400 block of Druid Hill Ave. yesterday when she was accosted by a man armed with a handgun who forced her to give up cash and property valued at $400.

ROBBERY: Northern District -- Kristin Heitman, of the 800 block of Gorsuch Ave., reported that while she was in the 200 block of E. 33rd St. about 11 a.m. yesterday, she was accosted by a man armed with a handgun who forced her to give up her purse. Police said the gunman escaped with cash and property valued at less than $20.

ROBBERY: Northern District -- Police reported that a man entered the Beauty Outlet in the 3200 block of Greenmount Ave. about 6:30 p.m. yesterday and forced an employee to give him the contents of the cash register. Police said the man fled with more than $150 in cash. Police said no weapon was displayed during the incident.

THEFT: Northern District -- Carl Valentine, of the 4300 block of York Road, reported that someone broke into his storage locker and removed a 22-inch TV, a second TV and a VCR. Police said the property was valued at more than $1,000.

ROBBERY: Northern District -- Police reported that Ronald Rollins, of the 1700 block of E. Belvedere Ave., was in the 5200 block of Amberwood Road about 8:30 p.m. yesterday when he was attacked by several youths who struck him with a piece of wood and robbed him of nearly $100 in cash.

BURGLARY: Northern District -- A resident of the first block of W. 27th St. reported that someone broke into her home by forcing a kitchen window and removed an AM-FM radio. Police said the value of the radio was not immediately known.

ROBBERY: Northern District -- William Dangerfield, of the 5300 block of Midwood Ave., reported that he was robbed of more than $100 in cash about 3 p.m. yesterday when he was stopped by a man armed with a handgun while in the 800 block of E. Belvedere Ave.

ROBBERY: Southwestern District -- Police reported that three residents of a house in the 5000 block of Clifton Ave. were robbed of cash and other property by two men who forced their way into the dwelling. Police said Frederick Denison, Joyce Jones and Pamela Taylor were forced to lie on the floor of a room while the two men robbed them. Police said nothing was taken from Denison, but that property and money valued at more than $1,000 was taken from Jones and Taylor.

ROBBERY: Southwestern District -- Dornell Riggins, of the 400 block of Gwynn Ave., told police that during an incident in her home, she was robbed of $300 in cash and property by her ex-boyfriend. Police said that during the incident, Riggins was choked by the man, who fled before officers arrived.

ROBBERY: Southwestern District -- Lillian Lewis, of the 2500 block of Denison St., reported that she was walking about three blocks from her home when a man approached her from behind and stole the purse she was carrying. Police said the man escaped with cash and property valued at nearly $160.

ROBBERY: Southwestern District -- Police reported that Brian Patterson, of the 6700 block of Wilmont Drive in Woodlawn, was in the 700 block of Allendale Road when he was accosted by a man armed with a handgun who robbed him of property valued at nearly $1,900.

BURGLARY: Southwestern District -- Officials of the United Methodist Church in the 3600 block of Edmondson Ave. reported that someone broke into the main building through the front door and removed property valued at $300.

BURGLARY: Southwestern District -- A resident of the 3200 block of Leeds Ave. reported that someone forcibly entered her house and removed property valued at nearly $1,400. Police said entry was gained through a window.

BURGLARY: Northeastern District -- Police reported that someone broke into a dwelling in the 1400 block of Gorsuch Ave. yesterday and removed cash and clothing. Police said entry was gained through a window and that the property was valued at nearly $600.
