Donald R. Sharretts, founded food brokerage

Donald R. Sharretts, retired chairman of the board of a food brokerage company, died of respiratory disease Sept. 13 at Montgomery General Hospital in Olney. He was 83.

A memorial service for Mr. Sharretts will be at noon Saturday in the chapel at Leisure World, the Silver Spring retirement community where he lived.

In 1988, he became chairman emeritus of the board of Sharretts and Bush Inc., which he helped to start in 1972 in the Baltimore area.

Earlier, he worked for other food brokerage firms.

Born in Baltimore, he attended Baltimore Polytechnic Institute before graduating from the Shenandoah Military School in Virginia. He graduated from Johns Hopkins University in 1929.

His wife, the former Erleen Campbell, died in 1988.

He is survived by a son, David B. Sharretts of Lutherville; a brother, R. Carleton Sharretts Jr. of Parkton; and three grandsons.
