John F. Gessler Supervised mechanics

A Mass of Christian burial for John F. Gessler, retired superintendent of mechanical shops at the Coast Guard Yard at Curtis Bay, will be offered at 9 a.m. today at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, 8420 Belair Road, Fullerton.

Mr. Gessler, who was 65 and lived on Vicky Road in Perry Hall, died Friday after a heart attack at a hospital in Bermuda after becoming ill on a cruise ship.

Mr. Gessler was a Baltimore native. He retired 10 years ago after 36 years at the Coast Guard Yard, where he started as an apprentice pipefitter.

The Baltimore native was a member of the Towson-Dulaney Lodge of the Order of the Sons of Italy and the Crescent Yacht Club.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, the former Rose M. Sanzone; a son, John F. Gessler Jr. of Perry Hall; two daughters, Margaret Stein of Perry Hall and Donna Downey of Bel Air; a brother, Joseph Gessler of Towson; three sisters, Betty Carpenter of Timonium, Carolyn Kornick of Lutherville and Regina Westerfield of Columbia; and four grandchildren.
