Joseph C. Oursler Jr. dies assistant principal was 53

Services for Joseph C. Oursler Jr., assistant principal at the Franklin Middle School in Reisterstown, will be held at 10 a.m. today at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Sykesville.

Mr. Oursler, who was 53 and lived in Eldersburg, died Saturday after an apparent heart attack in Pittsburgh, where he was attending a wedding.

Before his three years as assistant principal at Franklin, he held the same post at the Hereford High School for about six years.

He began his career in the Baltimore County school system in 1959 as a mathematics and science teacher at the Towsontown Junior High School and later headed science departments at the Cockeysville and Pine Grove middle schools and at the Old Court Junior High School.

A native of Randallstown, he was a graduate of Milford Mill High School and what is now Towson State University. He held a master's degree from the University of Maryland. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve and was a former member of the Randallstown Jaycees.

A lay speaker at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, he was a former Sunday school teacher and youth adviser at the Milford Mill United Methodist Church.

DTC He is survived by his wife, the former Nancy Wilson; two daughters, Lisa C. Oursler of Wilmington, Del., and Susan E. Oursler of Eldersburg; and his mother, Rosalie Antkowiak Oursler of Marriottsville.
