Baltimore City

SHOOTING: Eastern District -- Police said charges of possession of narcotics and assaulting a police officer were expected to be placed against a 32-year-old northeast city man who was shot early Saturday by a police officer following a struggle in the 1200 block of Ensor St. Police said Officer James O'Donnell was in the 1200 block of Wilcox St. when he noticed a man believed to be selling drugs. Police said when O'Donnell approached, the man pushed the officer and ran. Police said O'Donnell caught up with the man in the 1200 block of Ensor St. and during a struggle, O'Donnell drew his .38-caliber service revolver and fired one shot. Police said the bullet went through the man's arm and lodged in his chest. Shortly after the shooting, police said they found 20 bags of heroin, which the man is said to have thrown away during the chase. Arrested, police said, was Gregory A. Chavez, 32, of the 3300 block of Elmley Ave., who was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he was listed today in good condition. Police said charges were pending and that O'Donnell was returned to duty.

ESCAPE: Eastern District -- Police today continued to search for Robert Perdue, 23, of the 300 block of S. Collington Ave., who escaped Saturday from the City Jail by tying several bed sheets together and climbing down from a third-floor window in a jail building at 531 E. Madison St. Police said the escape occurred between 10:15 p.m. and 10:20 p.m. Saturday and that after an hour's search, the incident was reported to police. Several Eastern and Central District units responded to the jail, where an extensive search failed to turn up the inmate. It was not immediately known why Perdue was in jail.

ROBBERY: Northern District -- Police were seeking a man, reportedly armed with two handguns, who robbed a woman and a teen-age boy of property valued at more than $800 Sunday evening as they walked in the 5100 block of St. Georges Ave. Police said Susan James, 22, and a 15-year-old boy, both residents of the 5100 block of Kenilworth Ave., were walking together about 6 p.m. yesterday when they were stopped by a man armed with a handgun who ordered James to give up her jewelry. Police said when James refused to give up her property, the man pulled out a larger handgun and again demanded her jewelry. Police said the man then robbed James of a bracelet and ring, valued at nearly $500, and then robbed the boy of a ring before fleeing on foot.

THEFT: Northern District -- Jody Nusholtz of the 1600 block of E. Northern Parkway, reported that someone broke into the trunk of her car while the vehicle was parked in the 200 block of E. 29th St. over the weekend and removed a purse containing $1 in cash and $200 in other property and valuables.

ROBBERY: Northern District -- Jerry Segal, of no permanent address, told police he was in the 2500 block of Greenmount Ave. about 8 p.m. yesterday when he was assaulted by two men in their 20s who struck him with a piece of wood and robbed him of $10 in cash.

BURGLARY: Northern District -- A resident of the 900 block of Beaumont Ave. reported that someone broke into his home yesterday evening through an unlocked front door and removed a .22-caliber rifle that was hanging on a wall.

ROBBERY: Northern District -- Wanda Washington, of the 700 block of Druid Park Lake Drive, reported that during an incident in her home yesterday she was assaulted by a man she knows who removed $400 in cash from her purse and fled. Police said Washington was advised to seek a warrant charging the man with assault and robbery.

ROBBERY: Northeastern District -- Tera Holley, 21, of the 4700 block of Parkside Gardens Way, reported that during an incident at her home shortly before 2 a.m. yesterday, she was assaulted by a man she knows who removed a set of keys and $20 in cash from her purse. Police said the man fled the house and was being sought. Police said Holley was not seriously injured.

ASSAULT: Northeastern District -- Police reported that Flora Clifton, 19, of the 2800 block of Clifton Park Terrace, was struck on the head with a bottle during an incident at the same address. Police said Clifton was not seriously injured and that a man who also lives at the address was arrested and was being held at the Eastern District lockup pending charges.

ASSAULT: Northeastern District -- Kenneth Blunt, 33, of the 1900 block of E. 31st St., reported that during an incident at his home yesterday, he was stabbed in the shoulder by man with whom he lives. Police said Blunt was taken to Homewood Hospital South, where he was treated. Police said a suspect in the case was later arrested and was being held at the Eastern District pending assault and deadly weapon charges.
