Linganore rolls to 21-8 win

October 13, 1990|By Mike Frainie

Duane Musselman rushed for 198 yards on 31 carries and scored two touchdowns to keep visiting Linganore's (5-0, 3-0) Central Maryland Conference record unblemished with a 21-8 victory at South Carroll (4-2, 1-2).

Running back Greg Griffiths rushed for 110 yards for the Lancers, who racked up 322 total yards to South Carroll's 149.

The victory was the Lancers' second straight over a Carroll County team. They beat Liberty, 14-0, last week.

"I was hoping to get 200 this year, but we'll take it," said a smiling Musselman of his 198 yards, a career high. "Give credit to our line. They did a great job tonight."

Scott Mowlee contributed four sacks to lead the Lancers' defense.

Linganore had the best opportunity in the early going. South Carroll's Troy Jones fumbled the ball at his 19, and Jerry Ryan pounced on it for Linganore.

The Lancers moved the ball to the 5, but on fourth-and-goal from the 1, quarterback Richard Coffey was slowed by the Cavaliers' line before Kevin Baughton made the tackle for no gain with 9:14 left in the half.

The Lancers took the lead late in the second quarter. Taking over at their 45 after a Cavaliers punt, the Lancers engineered a 10-play, 55-yard drive. Musselman took a Coffey handoff 20 yards down the right sideline to cap the drive and give Linganore a 6-0 lead with 1:40 left in the half.
