Baltimore City

SHOOTING: Southern District -- Police are seeking two youths in connection with the shooting last night of Dante Hammond, 15, in front of his home in the 2900 block of Round Road in Cherry Hill. Police said Hammond was with two other boys about 9:30 o'clock when one of them shot him in the left side of the chest with a handgun. Hammond's mother heard the shot, took him into the house and called an ambulance. He was in critical condition today at the University of Maryland Medical Center.

THEFT: Northwestern District -- An unidentified police sergeant emerged from a restaurant in the 5300 block of Reisterstown Road about 10:30 last night and saw two men driving north in his undercover police car. In the vehicle was the officer's Glock 9mm semiautomatic handgun and two undercover portable radios, one with the city police narcotic squad's frequency and the other with the frequency of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. Police said the maroon 1990 Toyota 4-Runner has Virginia tags TGF-252.

BURGLARY: Southeastern District -- A resident of the 6100 block of Shipview Way reported to police that a woman who entered her home Wednesday afternoon stole more than $160 in cash and food stamps. Later, police arrested a 27-year-old woman and were holding her to await charges.

ROBBERY: Southeastern District -- Brian Clemens, 21, of the 100 block of N. Belnord Ave., told police he was outside his home around 1 a.m. yesterday when a man with a pistol accosted him, robbed him of $54 and fired a stray shot at him. Clemens was not injured.

ROBBERY: Southeastern District -- Police were seeking two men who attacked Robert Williams, of the 900 block of W. Lexington St., while he was in the 1300 block of E. Fayette St. around 4 a.m. yesterday and robbed him of an AM-FM cassette radio valued at $80. The assailants struck Williams in the face and body with a length of wood, causing multiple lacerations.

ROBBERY TRY: Southeastern District -- Martin McBurney, an out-of-town resident, told police he was in the 100 block of N. Lakewood Ave. early yesterday when a man with a gun stopped him and demanded money. The gunman searched McBurney's pockets, but McBurney pushed him away and dared him to shoot. Instead, the gunman turned and ran away.

ROBBERY: Southeastern District -- Police arrested two men and were seeking a third in the assault and robbery of Ricky Jones, of the 400 block of S. Madeira St., who was knocked down and robbed of two VCR tapes while he was in the 100 block of S. Duncan St. around 2:20 a.m. Later, police arrested and charged Robert L. Hite, 18, of the 200 block of S. Clinton St., and John Beahm, 18, of the 1900 block of E. Pratt St. A bail hearing was pending.

ROBBERY: Southeastern District -- Tonya Hall, of the 200 block of Aisquith St., reported she was walking in the 500 block of N. Gay St. shortly before 4 p.m. yesterday when she was approached from behind by a man who stole her purse containing a money order for nearly $200.

ROBBERY: Southeastern District -- Rodney Watties, of the 2900 block of N. Calvert St., reported he was in the 400 block of N. East Ave. around 5 p.m. yesterday when a man put a handgun in his back and demanded his money. Watties told police he gave more than $1,500 to the robber, who fled on foot.

ROBBERY: Northeastern District -- Police reported that Russell Pridgen, of the 4000 block of Lyndale Ave., and Tenesia Johns, of the 5200 block of Bowleys Lane, were walking near Johns' house late Wednesday night when they were stopped by two men in their late teens or early 20s, one armed with a handgun. The assailants forced Pridgen to give them the tennis shoes and trousers he was wearing. Then they robbed Johns of her jacket, portable radio and purse, containing jewelry and cash. In all, the stolen property was valued at nearly $500.

ARSON: Northeastern District -- Officials of the Freight Drivers Local Union 557 in the 6000 block of Erdman Ave. reported that someone entered a vacant office early yesterday and set the walls and floor on fire after pouring a flammable liquid throughout the room. Police said the fire was confined to the office.

ASSAULT/ARREST: Northeastern District -- While Officer Thomas Hagin was inside a house in the 5000 block of Truesdale Ave. and questioning a 14-year-old boy about threatening his mother, the youth went into the kitchen, got a knife and threatened to cut the officer. Hagin disarmed the youth and arrested him. The youth, charged as a juvenile on two assault counts, was released in the custody of his mother. No injuries were reported.

BURGLARY: Northeastern District -- A resident of the 3900 block of White Ave. told police that someone broke into her home through the basement door and stole an assortment of #i silverware, value unknown.
