*Calling all amateur photographers: Clean your lenses, load the film and proceed to Downs Park. A picture you take could win the Downs Park Photography Contest conducted during the month of October.
Entries will be accepted in four categories, all emphasizing the natural beauty and scenic areas of the park.
The contest is open to all amateur photographers. Employees of the county Department of Recreation & Parks and Severna Park Photo may not enter.
All entries must be received by Nov. 5. Judging will be done by Severna Park Photo. For additional rules, pick up a flyer at the park information center.
Oldies music and custom street rods will take over the bayside amphitheater at Downs Park from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday afternoon. The Cutters will be performing '50's and '60's rock and roll, and a few Bay Area custom street rods will be on hand.
A fall colors hike is planned for 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15. Ranger Dave DeVault will lead the moderate hike. The foliage should be near its peak, so don't forget to bring along your camera.
These upcoming events are free, but a parking fee of $3 for county residents, $6 for others, is in effect. For more information, call the park office, 222-6230.
