WASHINGTON -- Federal workers are in danger of losing Columbus Day holiday pay as a result of the three-day shutdown of the government, the office of Sen. Barbara A. Mikulski, D-Md., reported today.

Officials of the federal Office of Personnel Management were unable to say whether the federal workforce, which normally gets paid for holidays, would receive pay for Monday. An OPM official said "higher-ups are trying to decide that."

Mike Morrill, a spokesman for Mikulski, said she was to introduce a bill today to ensure holiday pay and pay for those workers, including many in the National Park Service, furloughed over the weekend.
