KATHERINE V. SMITH Legal secretary, 81

Funeral services for Glen Burnie resident Katherine V. Smith will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at Kirkley Funeral Home.

Mrs. Smith, 81, died of heart failure Oct. 9 at St. Agnes Hospital.

A Glen Burnie resident for 31 years, she worked as a legal secretary until her retirement.

Other interests included reading, music and crocheting.

Her husband, William Ehrhardt Smith died before her.

She is survived by a sister, Ameila B. Frittz of Glen Burnie, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

JOHN F. PEYTON Deputy sheriff, 57

Services for North Beach resident John Francis Peyton will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, in the Union Church at North Beach.

Mr. Peyton, 57, died of renal and liver failure Oct. 9 at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

He served as a deputy sheriff in Calvert County in the 1970s and was a member of the Southern Maryland Chapter of Fraternal Order of Police.

He was also a member of Stallings-Williams American Legion Post No. 206 and National Skirmish Association (a Civil War group).

Other interests included guns and history.

He is survived by five daughters, Pat Cote of Monterey, Calif., Cheri Larsen of Rockville, Laurie Mooradian of Huntingtown, Nancy Peyton of Melbourne, Fla., and Kathy Peyton of North Beach; and nine grandchildren.
