John W. Gray III Federal auditor

Graveside services for John Walter Gray III, an auditor in Germany for the U.S. Department of Defense, will be held at noon today at the Lake View Memorial Park, 2724 Liberty Road in Sykesville.

Mr. Gray, who was 35 and lived on Reno Road in Woodlawn since July, died Saturday at the Johns Hopkins Hospital after a long illness.

Since 1983, he worked in the office of the Defense Audit Agency in Wiesbaden, Germany.

For four years before that, he worked in Atlanta for the Internal Revenue Service. He started working for the IRS in Baltimore in 1977.

Earlier, he had been a salesman and manager at a Thom McAn shoe store in Catonsville.

A native of Oneonta, N.Y., who came to Baltimore as a child, he was a graduate of the Woodlawn High School and attended the University of Maryland Baltimore County before his graduation, with honors, from the University of Baltimore.

Mr. Gray is survived by his father, John W. Gray Jr., and stepmother Elfie K. Gray of Towson; his stepfather, Stanley V. Wisnowski of Woodlawn; a sister, Lynda J. Wills of Columbia; and two nieces.
