Gladiola Savage is the principal of Fort Smallwood Elementary school in Anne Arundel County. She enjoys reading, shopping and traveling, not neccessarily in that order.

How would you describe your taste in clothing?

Conservative and modest. Teachers should keep in mind that they serve as a role model for children and keep that in mind when they dress for school.

What's the newest thing in your closet?

Sweaters that I bought when I was in Bermuda in July. They're vest type and slipover cotton sweaters.

What's the oldest thing in your closet?

A velvet blazer that's about 10 years old. I still wear it when I want to dress up for an evening event.

Do you have a "standby" you wear to feel good and look good?

For a dressy occasion, I have a beige and a very bright blue silk dress. If the occasion is casual, it would be a raw silk black skirt and black and tan sweater.

What have you held on to for sentimental reasons?

The dress that I was married in. I don't why why I'm saving it when the marriage is gone.

What is your wardrobe weakness?

I buy blouses in groups, all different styles and colors. I have dozens. A suit and a blouse seem to be the uniform of a principal, so this is a practical weakness. During the summer, I XTC wear skirts and blouses.

What's the most expensive item in your closet?

A new full-length mink coat and I love it. This is my second one, the other is brown. This one's not as formal looking as the first one and I can wear it with almost everything.

What's the least expensive item in your closet?

Probably my casual pants. I don't spend a lot for them and I only buy one pair per season.

Have you ever worn a hat?

I used to and I still have a lot of hats that I can't bring myself to throw out.

What are your favorite accessories?

I like silk scarves and gloves and have quite a collection of both.

What's your biggest clothing mistake?

A short skirt. When I got it, it didn't look right and I didn't feel good in it, so I took it back to the store.

Do you have any shopping tips you'd like to share?

Always try to coordinate clothes, this way you can build your wardrobe.

If you could buy anything you wanted, what would it be?

It would be my dream car, a Jaguar, which would go with that new mink coat.
