Lawyers can learn the cost-effective use of paralegals at a seminar sponsored by the Bay Area Paralegal Association and Anne Arundel Community College at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 9.

The seminar will include three brief lectures by area lawyers. Also, participants will meet judges, lawyers and students involved in the college paralegal studies program that offers a degree and certificate program in paralegal studies.

Last spring 13 students interned for area firms and 15 are in internships this fall. Tickets to the seminar in the college cafeteria meeting room are $5 for association members, $2.50 for the public and students.

The West Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce will conduct a discussion about the Partnership for Workforce Quality Training Programs at 8 a.m. Oct. 10.

Alan Katz, from the Maryland Department of Economic and Employment Development, will describe the training programs designed to meet the needs of individual businesses. He will discuss training for job-specific skills and retraining of existing employees.

The West Anne Arundel Trade Council has several events planned for October.

Starting at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 11, a new member reception will be sponsored by the Trade Council at the Hampton Inn BWI, 829 Elkridge Landing Road, Linthicum. The event is by invitation only.

At 5:30 p.m. Oct. 16, the Anne Arundel Trade Council and Annapolis Science Park/Executive Center will be the host for a business mixer at the Executive Center, 175 Admiral Cochrane Drive, in Annapolis. Tickets are $7.50 before Oct. 12, $10 at the door and $20 for non-members.

A sales seminar, "Fear-Free Prospecting and Self Promotion," will take place from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Oct. 25 at the Days Inn BWI, 7481 New Ridge Road, Hanover. Registration is $25.
