A proposed change in commercial fishing regulations that could play an important role in the future of sports fishing for the troubled flounder will be aired 7 p.m. Wednesday at a hearing at the Sheraton Salisbury Inn in Salisbury.
In an effort to spare young flounder, the Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council proposes, coastwide, that once a vessel fishing 3 to 200 miles takes more than 500 pounds of flatties it must not fish trawl nets of more than 5.5-inch diamond, or 6-inch square mesh.
There are no proposals to further restrict sports fishing activity. Mail written comments to Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council, Room 211, Federal Building, 300 S. New St., Dover, Del. 19901. Call 1-302-674-2331.
