Motorcyclist, truck driver die in two accidents

Two people were killed in separate highway accidents Friday night, including a 41-year-old motorcyclist who crashed into a dump truck in Washington County, police said.

David Lynn Peters of Martinsburg, W.Va., was killed when he drove his motorcycle through a red light and ran into the dump truck at the intersection of Routes 66 and 64 in Smithsburg.

The driver of the truck was not injured in the crash, which occurred at about 6:40 p.m., police said.

Five hours later in Somerset County, the 44-year-old driver of a seafood truck loaded with canned clams was killed after he lost control of the vehicle and it overturned. A passenger sustained minor injuries.

Marston E. Nelson of Horsey, Va., was dead at the scene of the collision on Route 13 south of Mennonite Church Road in Westover. His passenger, Lee Chapman, 21, was released after treatment at the Prince George's Hospital Center.
