Joe Fargis, a two-time Olympic show jumping medalist, is set to try for a second straight win at the Baltimore Jumping Classic this weekend in the Baltimore Arena.
Fargis is one of five previous winners of the Grandprix o Baltimore who is expected to compete tomorrow night in the $50,000 event. No rider has ever won the jumping classic twice. Others who are hoping to qualify for a try at a repeat victory are Lisa Jacquin, Mario Deslauriers, Katie Monahan Prudent and Donald Cheska.
An initial qualifying round is set for tonight at 7:30. The top 4 horses and riders will then compete tomorrow night in the Grandprix. Last year Fargis won with the mare Mill Pearl, who he is listed to ride again.
About 300 horses, with riders coming from as far away a California, Texas and Canada, are competing in the two-day show.
