Dorothy T. Smith

Dorothy T. Smith, who practiced nursing at Union Memorial Hospital in the 1920s and 1930s and was active in volunteer work, died yesterday at the hospital of complications from a broken hip. She was 86.

Private services were planned for Mrs. Smith, who lived on University Parkway.

The former Dorothy Truitt was a native of Salisbury who attended the Southern Seminary Junior College in Buena Vista, Va., before graduating from the nursing school at Baltimore's University Hospital.

She and Dr. Frank R. Smith Jr. were married in 1929 at St. Anne's Episcopal Church in Annapolis, chosen because it was midway between Baltimore and the Eastern Shore. Dr. Smith, who headed student and employee health programs for Johns Hopkins University, died in 1965.

Mrs. Smith is survived by two sons, C. Truitt Smith of Baltimore and Frank Robert Smith III of San Francisco; a sister, Eileen Wright of Eastville, Va.; and two grandchildren.
