THEFT/ARRESTS: Northeastern District -- Police responding yesterday to the Ames department store in the 2500 block of Belair Road arrested two 21-year-old women after they attempted to leave the store without paying for merchandise valued at nearly $72. Police said the property was recovered and that the women, one a resident of the 5400 block of Belle Vista Ave. and the other of the 3000 block of Elmer Ave., were being held at the women's detention center pending charges and a bail hearing before a District Court commissioner.

ASSAULT: Western District -- Tammy Elkton, of the 2500 block of Salem St., reported that while she was walking in the 2700 block of Pennsylvania Ave. around 8 p.m. yesterday she became involved in an argument with a man. Elkton said that during the dispute, the man struck her with a bottle. Police said the man fled the scene.

THEFT: Western District -- Marc Baladi, of the 3100 block of Berkshire Road, reported that while his car was parked in the 2700 block of W. Franklin St. someone entered the vehicle and stole the trip meter. Police said the meter was valued at $200.

ASSAULT: Western District -- Derrick Bennett, of the 2500 block of Druid Hill Ave., reported that he was standing in front of a building not far from his home yesterday when he became involved in an argument with another man. Bennett told police that during the argument the other man pulled out a handgun and pointed it at him. Police said Bennett fled the scene uninjured and that the gunman was being sought.

THEFT: Northeastern District -- Donald Hufham, of the 5100 block of Wright Ave., reported that his 1986 Honda was parked in the driveway of his home yesterday when someone broke into the vehicle and removed property valued at more than $100.

BURGLARY: Northeastern District -- A resident of the 7000 block of McClean Blvd. reported that someone broke into his home by forcing open the front door and removed $600 from under a mattress in the bedroom.

THEFT: Northeastern District -- Dorothy Hall, of the 5100 block of Goodnow Road, reported that someone broke a rear window of her car while it was parked near her home yesterday and removed a jacket from the back seat. Police said the jacket was valued at nearly $60.

THEFT/ARREST: Northeastern District -- Employees of the Farm Fresh store in the 2900 block of Hamilton Ave. yesterday detained a 43-year-old man who attempted to leave the store without paying for nearly $45 worth of cosmetics. Police said the property was recovered and that the man was being held at the Eastern District lockup pending theft charges and a bail hearing.

BURGLARY: Northeastern District -- Police reported that property valued at $600 was removed from a dwelling in the 3400 block of Ravenwood Road after someone gained entry through a window.

BURGLARY: Northeastern District -- A resident of the 1900 block of Harryweiss Court in the Hollander Ridge public housing complex reported that someone broke into her apartment through an unlocked window and removed property valued at more than $80.

THEFT: Northeastern District -- Police reported that a security officer at the Farm Fresh market in the 2400 block of Belair Road arrested a man yesterday when he attempted to leave the store without paying for merchandise valued at nearly $30. Police said the suspect was being held at the Eastern District lockup pending charges and that the property was recovered.

THEFT: Northeastern District -- Police reported that someone entered the back yard of a house in the 2800 block of Kentucky Ave. yesterday and removed a bike. Police said the bike was valued at nearly $150.

ROBBERY: Northeastern District -- Employees of Video Villa in the 4500 block of Belair Road reported that a man armed with a handgun entered the business around 10 p.m. yesterday and ordered them to give him the contents of the cash register. Police said the gunman fled with nearly $150.

ROBBERY: Southwestern District -- Theresa Colvin, of the 4700 block of Sayer Ave., reported that she was in the 4600 block of Frederick Ave. around 1 a.m. yesterday when she was stopped by a man armed with a handgun who demanded her money. Colvin told police the man robbed her of a small sum of cash and fled on foot.

ROBBERY: Southwestern District -- Veronica Simms, of the 1600 block of N. Hilton Ave., reported that she was walking near her home early yesterday when she was approached from behind by a man who stole her purse and fled. Police said the purse `D contained cash and property valued at more than $600.

ROBBERY: Southwestern District -- Police reported that Andrea Jones, of the 4600 block of Manordene Road, was in the first block of S. Hilton St. Tuesday when she was attacked by a man who robbed her of her purse. Police said the man fled with $370 in cash and other property.
