TRIO CHARGED WITH ROBBING MACHINES

Brooklyn Park: - County police have charged three South County residents with robbing nearly two dozen soda machines during the past two months.

Warren Randell Atkins, 18, of the 200 block Old Deale Road in Tracy's Landing; Laurie Jeanette Dent, 26, of the 100 block Patuxent Mobile Estates in Lothian; and Timothy Lee Kidd, 24, of the 800 block Fiorenza Drive in Lothian, were all charged with 32 counts of theft and destruction of property and one count of breaking and entering, county police said.

The police said 22 vending machines were destroyed when a crowbar was used to force the machines' coin boxes open. The machines were located in Pasadena, Arnold, Severna Park, Crownsville, Annapolis, Edgewater, Deale and Lothian.

Investigators said the three worked their way south until they were arrested in Calvert County Sept. 26. The Calvert County Sheriff's Department, Maryland State police and Annapolis City police also have charged them with theft and destruction of property.

GLEN ARDEN MAN ON DRUGS CHARGE

County police have charged a Prince George's County man with possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine in Pioneer City on Saturday.

Melvin George Mason, 22, of the 7900 block Glen Arden Parkway in Glen Arden, was charged after the 12:04 a.m. incident.

The police said officers on patrol in Pioneer City saw a man loitering on Arwell Court. When they tried to arrest the man, he resisted.

The police said the officers searched the man and found 19 rocks of crack cocaine in a bottle in his pocket.

CASHIER ATTACKED IN 7-11 STORE ROBBERY

County police are looking for the man who robbed a 7-11 convenience store and hit the cashier with a hammer yesterday.

The police said the robber entered the store in the 1300 block of Odenton Road in Odenton about 12:30 a.m., hit the clerk in the face with a hammer and took money.

A witness saw the robber get into a blue Honda Civic with Maryland license plates.

A description of the robber was not available.

MAN HAILS TAXICAB, ROBS DRIVER OF $100

A Checker Cab Co. driver was robbed Tuesday near Annapolis, county police reported.

The police said the driver was flagged down by the robber at 2:17 p.m.

in front of the WaWa convenience store on Spa Road by a man who said he wanted to "cruise" the Bywater neighborhood.

While the driver was heading west on Forest Drive, the robber told him to turn down Greenbriar Lane. After passing Belle Lane, the robber told him to turn around and demanded all his money.

The driver gave the robber $100 and the robber ran into the woods toward Bywater.

A description of the robber was not given.
