'Nick and Nora' nicked

October 03, 1990

The opening of the musical "Nick and Nora," scheduled fo Dec. 25 at The Morris A. Mechanic Theatre, has been postponed, probably until February 26.

A spokesman for the show's producers, capitalization has not been completed in time for the touring company to build sets for the December dates. The producers have not been able to completely finance the $5.6 million production, which is to begin its pre-Broadway tryout here. The musical, starring Barry Bostwick and Joanna Gleason as Dashiell Hammett's famous detective couple, is now scheduled to open on Broadway in April.

To give "Nick and Nora" time to complete its capitalization drive, the Mechanic will stage "M. Butterfly" from Dec. 4 to Dec. 30.

"M. Butterfly," which won Tony awards in 1988, including best play, takes place in a Paris prison and recalls the years of 1960-1986 in Beijing and Paris.
