Is Nixon warming up?

October 02, 1990

The Orioles may ask former President Richard M. Nixon to throw out the first pitch of the last home opener at Memorial Stadium next year.

"It's not outside the realm of possibility," Orioles PR director Rick Vaughn said.

Nixon threw out the first pitch of the first Memorial Stadium home opener as vice president in 1954.

Team officials said the Nixon toss is just one of several possible promotions for the last union of the Orioles and the Great Lady of 33rd Street. The Orioles themselves may wear some sort of commemorative logo on their uniforms.

A three-day gala is planned for the Orioles' final home series, next Oct. 5-6 against Detroit.
