ITALIAN GARDENS, Kenilworth Park Mall, Kenilworth Avenue, Towson.

Open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. No orders after 8:30 p.m. Phone: 821-0292.

The Italian Gardens restaurant is nestled in the Kenilworth Shopping Mall just off the Beltway between Charles Street Extended and Bosley Avenue. It isn't easy to find, but it is worth finding.

You can sit down in the dining area and get table service, or you can order and take out. Service is prompt and the employees are friendly. That's always a big plus.

If you order out, you can take it anywhere you like in the mall, and that includes the atrium, where the tables and chairs are neighbors to a fountain. The atmosphere is very pleasant, and the food is very good.

We ordered two small garden salads ($3.50 each )and entrees, which may have been a mistake -- either one would be a meal in itself. The salads range from $3.50 to $7. The garden salad is a buy. You get lettuce, tomato, onion, mushroom, ham and cheese.

We ordered pasta entrees, gnocci with tomato sauce ($5) and fettuccine with Bologuese (meat and mushroom) for $6.25. All come with Italian rolls.

The tomato sauce has it over the Bologuese, but both are extremely satisfying.

Medium soft drinks, two salads, two entrees and bread for two came to less than $17 (with a coupon for second entree half-price).
