Man jumps mayor's fence

September 28, 1990

A motorcyclist chased by police dropped his 1974 Honda on Baltimore Mayor Kurt L. Schmoke's lawn last night and jumped two fences on the mayor's property, police said.

They had followed the motorcyclist to the mayor's Ashburton neighborhood about 9:45 p.m. after observing a drug transaction in the first block of North Gilmor Street. When the cyclist reached the intersection of Denison Road and Sequoia Avenue, the man dropped his vehicle on the mayor's property and climbed a back yard fence, police said.

The man ran then across the mayor's yard and jumped another fence facing Sequoia Avenue. The suspect, whom police described as a bearded black man, 30 to 35 years of age, wearing an orange and black checkered jacket, was last seen in the Ashburton Woods Apartments complex.

No damage was reported to the mayor's fence or yard.
