Lena D. Hartman Joined German groups

Services for Lena D. Hartman, a former dress shop owner who belonged to German groups, will be held at 1 p.m. today at Loring Byers funeral establishment, 8728 Liberty Road, Randallstown.

Mrs. Hartman, who was 91 and lived on Chesterfield Avenue for 52 years, died Wednesday at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center after a fall at her Northeast Baltimore home 12 days earlier.

Born Lena D. Geschwendt in Bremerhaven, Germany, she came to Baltimore at the age of 20 to join a brother.

She was a seamstress and owned a dress shop before her marriage in 1928 to Samuel A. Hartman, a founder of the Diamond Cab Co.

Mrs. Hartman was a member of the German Society of Maryland and Zion Lutheran Church at City Hall Plaza.

She was an airplane spotter in the Civil Defense organization during World War II.

In addition to her husband, her survivors include a son, Paul Hartman of Wheaton; two granddaughters; and five great-grandchildren.
