Water polo squad falls short, 13-12
The Navy men's water polo team fell to defending national champs University of California Irvine last week, 13-12, in the team's only varsity action.
Irvine scored five first-quarter goals to open a 7-4 halftime lead. But junior Luis Nicolao scored two of his four goals in the third period, helping Navy's five-goal rally to tie the game at 9-9.
The contest remained close until the final 10 seconds, when a shot slipped past Navy goalie David Schalm, giving Irvine the margin of victory.
Nicolao leads Navy in scoring with 22 goals on the season. He's followed by senior Elton Parker, who has 19 goals, and junior Jerry Berman, 16 goals.
The Mids will travel to West Point, N.Y., on Oct. 5, for a matchup with archrival Army.
