A 13-year-old East Baltimore boy who was trying to protect his mother from a hostile ex-boyfriend was shot in the head and critically injured last night, police said.
They said the boy, who lives in the 1200 block of Ensor Street, went to the aid of his mother about 9:30 p.m. after hearing her and the man arguing. The boy's mother told him to phone the police.
But before he could reach the telephone, police learned, the ex-boyfriend forced him outside to the steps in front of his home and shot him in the head at close range. The victim was taken to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he was reported in critical condition early this morning.
Police said they expected to issue a warrant charging a gunman.
