Anne Arundel County police say a collision between a car and a truck at Ritchie Highway and Mountain Road in Pasadena killed the car driver, Anna E. Zahn, 63, of Glen Burnie, and blocked the intersection for about two hours with a fuel spill.

Police said Zahn was northbound in a 1981 Plymouth Reliant on Ritchie Highway about 2:10 p.m. yesterday when she failed to stop for a red traffic light.

The car was struck by an oncoming truck, driven by James R. Burke, 24, of the 100 block of Smithwood Ave. in Catonsville.

Police said Zahn was rushed by ambulance to North Arundel Hospital, where she later died.

Burke was not injured.

Police said the impact caused the truck's diesel fuel tank to burst, sending several gallons of the fuel onto the roadway.

No fire was reported, but the incident caused the intersection to be closed for nearly two hours while road crews removed the fuel, police said.

State Police at Pikesville said the woman's death brought to 548 the number of people killed on the state's roadways so far this year, compared with 524 at the same time last year.
