An Orlando, Fla., publisher has offered a $10,000 reward in connection with the Sept. 17 slaying of a Philadelphia woman at a motel in the Westview section of Baltimore County.

Valerie Brown, 30, was killed in an apparent robbery attempt as she was about to enter the motel in the 5800 block of Baltimore National Pike, police said.

Brown, who was based in Philadelphia, was a senior sales representative for Holt, Rinehart and Winston Inc., a subsidiary of Harcourt Brace Jovanovich Inc., publishers, which is offering the reward.

The money will be paid for information leading to the arrest and indictment of a suspect, according to a company announcement. Information should be provided to Sam Bowerman at the Baltimore County Police Department, 887-3943, or to the Metro Crime Stoppers Hot Line, 276-8888.
