T-a-x Free Calls On New Irs Numbers

The Internal Revenue Service will change its toll-free telephone assistance numbers on Oct. 1.

The new numbers have an 829 (T-A-X) prefix, to make them easier to remember. Taxpayers dialing the old telephone numbers will receive a message providing the new numbers.

The new numbers are:

For federal tax questions, 1-800-TAX-1040; for tax forms and publications, 1-800-TAX-3676; for Tele-Tax/refund information 1-800-TAX-4477, and for TTY and TTD for the deaf, 1-800-TAX-4059.
