NFL -- Joe Montana of the San Francisco 49ers was named NFC Offensive Player of the Week for his 390-yard, two-touchdown passing performance against the Washington Redskins. Eddie Brown, who caught 10 passes for 178 yards and two touchdowns for the Cincinnati Bengals in their 21-16 win against the San Diego Chargers, was chosen AFC Offensive Player of the Week. Detroit Lions linebacker Chris Spielman, who had 10 solo tackles, two assists, one sack and one recovered fumble in a 21-14 win over the Atlanta Falcons, was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week. Rod Woodson, who had six tackles and scored on a 52-yard punt return in the Pittsburgh Steelers' 20-9 victory over the Houston Oilers, was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week.
